UMD’s SHPE chapter kicked off their first General Body Meeting with Google!!! We had the opportunity to hear all about the exciting internship and full-time opportunities (outside the scope of SWE) for Engineering and CS/IS students! 😀

If you’re interested in automated vehicles, you certainly missed out Cruise’s tech talk on how they’re using their data to shape the future of car services!

The SHPE 2018 Conference in Cleveland, Ohio was a success! We had the opportunity to network with employers and meet fellow SHPE members from all over the country!

Thank you to our family from SHPE DC for preparing us to get the most out of the SHPE 2018 Conference (Nov. 7-10)! The advice received ranged from tips on what should be included on our resume to how to stand out to top employers in the very competitive environment!

Microsoft Engineers and the UMD technical recruiter joined us and brought ideas and tips on how to organize our resumes and prepare for interviews!

Enjoyed a successful event as we all got to hear about different projects and the day-to-day work style! We also got meet a few former SHPE members that are now working at Northrop Grumman!!

Noche De Ciencias: We had the honor of hosting a Noche de Ciencias event (Night of Science) was held in Parkland Middle School on January 15th. We were able to reach out to a younger demographic of students that allowed us to inspire a carrer in STEM from an early start through fun and interactive activities. We had amazing speakers and representatives from SHPE-UMD, SHPE-DC, and UMD’s recruitment department helping to introduce the parents to the resources available to them and their students. This is all done in an effort to increase awareness and enthusiasm that students have towards the STEM fields. In addition, we SHPE-Jr. Committee is now beginning to start a SHPE Jr. right here at Parkland Middle!
