SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) is an organization dedicated to empowering the Hispanic community in STEM fields through networking, professional development, and educational opportunities.
Who can join SHPE-UMD?
SHPE-UMD welcomes all University of Maryland students, regardless of major, ethnicity, or background, who are interested in STEM and our mission.
What are the benefits of joining SHPE-UMD?

How do I become a member?
You can become a member by signing up through the SHPE National website and selecting SHPE-UMD as your chapter. Alternatively, visit the Membership page for more information.
Do I have to pay to join SHPE?
No, there is no fee to join SHPE-UMD. However, there is a membership fee to join SHPE National, which gives to access to SHPE National resources.
What if I don’t have a STEM major?
SHPE-UMD welcomes students from all majors! Our mission is to promote diversity and professional growth for everyone interested in STEM fields.

What types of events does SHPE-UMD host?
General Body Meetings (GBMs), career development workshops, networking events, outreach programs for pre-college students, and socials. Visit the Events page for more details.
How often are General Body Meetings held?
GBMs are typically held weekly, and we aim to host at least 2 different types of events each week. Check the SHPE Community Calendar for the latest schedule.
Can non-members attend SHPE events?
Yes, all students are welcome to attend our events, regardless of membership status.

What are SHPE Conferences?
SHPE Conferences are annual events that bring together students and professionals for workshops, networking, and career fairs. The National Convention is the largest, but there are also regional events.
How do I register for a SHPE Conference?

Does SHPE-UMD offer financial assistance for attending conferences?
